Waveform Generator (WGM-101)

The WGM-101 is an USB-powered waveform generator small enough to fit in your pocket. This device generates all standard test waveforms (Sine, Square, Triangle, Sawtooth) as well as arbitrary waveforms created by the user. Precise digital frequency control allows adjustment of the output frequency from 0.1Hz to 100kHz with a resolution of 0.1Hz. The open source graphical user interface allows the user to download custom waveforms into the device for non-volatile storage, sweep the frequency over a particular frequency range with a point-and-click interface, and directly control the output amplitude and offset.

Arbitrary Waveform Examples

The following waveforms were generated using the arbitrary waveform function of the WGM-101. These screenshots were captured using the DSO-101 Digital Storage Oscilloscope.

Electrocardiogram (ECG)

Electromyogram (EMG)

Electroencephalogram (EEG)

Output Spectrum

The WGM maintains its 8-bit vertical resolution independently of the output
amplitude setting. The spectrum analysis screen shot illustrates this with
the spectrum analysis of a 1kHz generator sine wave. In this measurement the
generator amplitude is near the minimum setting, 100mVp-p to match the
microphone input level on a laptop computer.

For the 8 bit vertical resolution of the WGM-101 generator, the theoretical
dynamic range is about 48db. Notice that the distortion components - at
harmonics of 1kHz - are at or below that level.

This spectrum applies throughout the entire amplitude range of the generator.
